To All That Read This Blog,

First and foremost, thank you so much for reading!  Never would I have imagined that a simple blog about my passion for SM Entertainment would turn out like this!

I love hearing from each and everyone, but I do get a lot of comments and emails to answer.  I have compiled all the useful information I can think of into four easy places:

Please check these sections before commenting or asking a question.  Most likely, I have already answered your question!   I spent a lot of time on these, so please put them to good use!
However, if you cannot find your answer there, don't hesitate to comment or email me!

Here are some other places to look!

    1. Hi Kamy!
Please refer to the three links above! They answer all of your questions!

      For your questions not answered:

6.) Please prepare your own monologue.
7.) At live auditions they tell you it will take up to a month to reply. You will either have to be prepared to make multiple trips out to Korea, or make arrangements to stay in Korea for awhile.
      8.) Please provide your own.
15.) Please introduce yourself in either English, Mandarin, Japanese, or Korean. Please pick the language you are most fluent in (in your case, English).
      16.) See #7.

I find your blog very useful, so I want to say thank you for a helpful site! :) I also have some questions if you don't mind ^^ I was just wondering - when I am going to record, I know that I should send one clip dancing and one singing: if I sing two song, are they going to be in two seperate videos or just in one video, where I sing them?
    - I just want to make sure :) ~Thank you~

    1. Yes? In general I would say yes. 5'7" is on the short side for models (they judge on international standards which state that one should be between 5'7" and 6'0"), but you're probably fine! :)
SM isn't known for its models (that aren't in idol groups), so they're probably going to be /very/ picky. The key is to show charisma.

Feel free to send me photos if you want me to evaluate, but do know I can be blunt. Email: angelsunfoldedwings@gmail.com

    5. You'll have to audition for modeling, specifically.

Charisma is something that draws people to you. If you've every seen BoA or Tiffany in action, that's charisma. When you watch them on stage, you can't take your eyes away.

Don't worry about your age. It's fine.
At minimum, you'll need to send them a front shot, profile shot, and full body shot (which is also required for the singing and dancing auditions). They don't have any instructions for modeling for the online auditions, but the for the Monthly Live Auditions say "free posing". I would include a short video of you doing free poses.

  4. Hello I'm tasya, I'm an indonesian and I'm 15y.o. It's really nice to found this blog because I am willing to apply on an audition. Months by months I'm waiting such as a crazy girl who dreamin about being a part of them. But now, I found the way. It's really nice to meet you, really. This is my dream, and this is what I choose to be my future.
So, I have some question to you, hope you'll answer that here or maybe on my email ie_amelda@yahoo.com, that's up to you unni :)

    So here's the question.

    1. DO I NEED to SLEEP with SM CEO to do my debut (soon) ???

    2. May I choose 2 west songs and 1 korean song? I've picked beyonce-best thing I ever had and evannesce-bring me to life because those songs could show my voices well. And for the korean, I choose 2ne1-missing you since it's a new song and it's a perfect song either. May I?

    3. I am speak indonesian, english fluent enough, korean basic, chinese and japanese just 'taja hao' and 'moshi moshi', french no idea, german I took a class for this. Is that okay?

    4. Do I have to sing those songs in a video or I have to sing those songs in a different video/file?

    5. Can I do a free style for my dance? You know, dancing randomly. I've choosed britney spears-circus for the background song jfyi, unni.

    6. What do I have to say in my video? Or do I have to say nothing in my video and only sing? What do I have to say in the body mail?

    7. IF they are going to recruit me, do I have to go to Korea to do a face to face audition?

    8. Can I send my apply...now?

    9. Do I have to write a song? You know, make a song..

    10. May I put some bb cream on my face when I take a photo for them?

That is all for me, now.. I really sorry for asking too much. But sure, I need your help a lot now. You are a hero for us. So, I hope you'll answer my question. A lot kiss from here unni!!!! 갑사합니다!!!

    1. 1.) NO. SM stays out of that sort of stuff, as far as I can tell. You should NEVER sleep with someone to advance your career. You're worth more than that!
2.) Sure. Those are good songs. I would caution against the 2NE1 song because a lot of 2NE1 songs end up being the go-to song for many auditioners. Just watch the songs' emotions!
3.) If they ask in a later audition, you would only mention Indonesian and English. "da jia hao" and "moshi moshi" aren't enough to mention to a judge.
For example, I would mention I speak English fluently, and I'm conversationally fluent in Korean and Mandarin Chinese. While I've taken courses in German (5 HS years), French (2 HS years), Spanish, Russian, and Japanese, I don't speak them to a level that I could hold any sort of conversation, so I wouldn't mention it to a judge.
4.) SM accepts mp3, wmv, and wav :)
5.) Yes! This is the best kind for an audition!
6.) Nothing or "Hi my name is...I'll be singing..."
For the email body, check "A Useful Guide to SM Entertainment" which tells you everything step-by-step.
7.) Yes. SM hasn't signed anyone yet (that I know of) without at least one face-to-face audition under their belt.
      8.) Yes!
9.) No. That's not required unless you're auditioning as a composer.
10.) I would say it would be okay unless it alters your natural appearance at all in a noticeable way. Also, make sure it's blended well so the judges don't see unblended edges or notice that you /have/ BB Cream on.

    2. Wow unni I really thank you for answering this. From what you've answered, I got any question (again) sorry for too much asking btw ;;; but I need this to make a dream come true after being bullied so much about this.

      1. So, I shouldn't sing 2ne1 songs. Do you think I could sing a song from which girlband? It's hard to sing btw, because every part has been sung one by one from the member. Kinda like, 'Cha massilae?' ? I learned that song since I was applying to pledis either. But looks like I'm going to pick aileen-heaven.

      2. So, I chould not make a video and sing? They would accept any mp3 format. Then, which means, I could record it with video first and convert that to mp3, could I?

      3. If they ask me to go to korea to do a face to face audition, is that mean they are serious to recruit me?

Well, so far this is it. I really wish that you'll answer this one too. You have an amazing blog unni, you help us, you bring us one step closer to our dreams. See you really soon there unni (I hope) ㅋㅋㅋ much love from here.

    3. 1.) Honestly, I would not sing from a girl band. I recommend Baek Ji Young, Younha, or any old school ballad singer (Insooni or Lee Sora for example). I say this because any girl band song is probably already over sung. "차 마실래" was played quite a lot this spring when I was in Korea during Hello Venus' comeback.
Ailee is okay, but I do suggest singing one of her songs that isn't a promoted track. Maybe "저녁하늘" (Evening Sky) or "이럼 법이 어딨어"?

2.) As long as you stay within the accept formats, how you do your singing and dancing clips is up to you! :)

3.) Maybe. I've heard enough credible stories of people going to Korea once or twice after being asked only to not get signed. Yes, they think you're better than most of the other auditions they've heard, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are serious about recruiting.
It's a great sign if you get asked to Korea, but I wouldn't say they were serious until they offer you a contract.

    4. Thanks for every answer you've gave unni!!! ㅋㅋㅋ if there's something I need to ask, may I email you? Hehehe... I've decide to sing one of ailee's, bring me to life, and hypnosis by brown eyed girls. Thanks a lot again unni x3333

  5. Hi, I have a quick question. If I am auditioning as a rapper (along with singing/dancing), does it have to be freestyled or can it be a cover? I need to know so I can practice my freestyle :3

    1. Usually rappers do covers, but freestyle is okay too :)
